{"id":696295,"date":"2024-04-10T14:42:07","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T04:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/?p=696295"},"modified":"2024-08-26T15:05:45","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T05:05:45","slug":"fx-analysis-gold-and-usd-eye-key-cpi-figure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/en\/articles\/forex-trading\/fx-analysis-gold-and-usd-eye-key-cpi-figure\/","title":{"rendered":"FX analysis \u2013 Gold and USD eye key CPI figure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After last week\u2019s blockbuster NFP figure FX traders have a key US CPI reading to look forward to later today. \u00a0Rates markets have seen see-sawing expectations on when the Fed will start cutting rates and today\u2019s CPI will be another big part of that puzzle.<\/p>\n<p>US CPI for March is expected to come in at a 0.3% increase, a slight cooling from Februarys 0.4% but still stubbornly holding the Year-on-Year rate at 3.4%, showing that not progress in the battle to bring down inflation is slow going and not over yet.<\/p>\n<p>USD has been in a holding pattern during April with the US dollar Index range trading between the support at 104 and resistance at 105, the 104 support is certainly in play should a cooler than expected CPI reading come in, with the next support at the 200-day SMA at 103.81<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-696296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/dxy.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1835\" height=\"857\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/dxy.png 1835w, https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/dxy-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/dxy-1024x478.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/dxy-768x359.png 768w, https:\/\/www.gomarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/dxy-1536x717.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1835px) 100vw, 1835px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Golds record run-up to all time highs has seen the precious metal take headlines during April. As an inflation hedge it should benefit from a hot CPI reading, but a cool reading would see yields and the USD drop which is also gold positive.
